People fear we'll see more satellites than stars
Link: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/01/science/starlink-spacex-astronomers.html
In a recent Space X launch, a total of 60 satellites were launched into space. This has been part of a project called,"Starlink". The Starlink project's goal is to provide internet to all of the Earth, however one problem has recently occurred, the satellites are bright, too bright. During the launch, stargazers were not only able to see the satellites, but film them as they entered the upper atmosphere. This Brightness is due to a solar panel on each of the satellites that absorb the sunlight, however they also reflect it down to Earth. Astronomers state that each satellite was as bright as the northern star, Polaris. Space X founder, Elon Musk, stated that the satellites will only seen hours after sunset and sunrise. However some astronomers estimated that the satellites could be seen during summer nights.

Planet shields in outer space.
Link: https://phys.org/news/2019-05-meteor-magnets-outer-spacestudy-elusive.html
Astronomers have found out that Jupiter has protected the Earth from asteroids that would have lead to the destruction of earth. Now astronomers are trying to find out if this is the same in other solar systems. So far, they have found out that planets such as ours, have the ability to "sling shot" meteors, comets, and asteroids from it's orbit to smaller rocky planets. However unlike our solar system, most solar systems we have discovered have larger planets orbiting their sun closer than the smaller planets. This information cannot help us due to the fact that our solar system has the larger planets orbiting the sun farther than our smaller planets. However, thanks to a new detection system we can verify exo-planets in other solar systems more accurately. This system involves detecting wobble from stars, which is caused by another planet's gravitational pull. Then if the operators believe the wobble is significant, they visually confirm it.

Uber & Lyft Protest
In recent news, Uber and Lyft drivers have began to boycott the companies as a way of protest to say: "what about us?" Most problems have occurred as problems with pay, safety, and general concern of the public. May people agree that the ride share companies had to do something about these problems, and the only way to address the issue is that of a protest. In San Francisco, People gathered at Uber Headquarters to protest against their small wages. However, they didn't just stop there. As the protest was in session, the protesters shut down the headquarters during the midday rush.

Space X has now successfully delivered 5,500 lbs of cargo to the international space station. Most of this cargo was meant for it's crew, but science experiments and other research related items were delivered to the space station. This is the second time Space X has sent cargo to the space station, however it was noticeably bigger than the last time. This alone was a comeback for Space X because of the company's space craft that was meant to deliver a new crew to the space station exploded in it's testing phase. However, all in all, the more the space station can be improved, the more we can both innovate and explore.

Scientists have finally completed the full genetic code for California’s giant trees. They say that they will save this important information to protect the trees. Other scientists use information like it to protect all genetic diversity in forests. Genetic diversity is required because clones are susceptible to the same virus, thus they can all die if one of them get infected. However clones are still used by logging companies to generate more lumber than a normal tree. While this can be useful, this method lacks genetic diversity and makes them susceptible to the same virus.

Why we haven't found aliens yet
Link: https://www.livescience.com/65318-young-suns-shredding-earth-like-atmospheres.html
New scientific studies show that planets around M-dwarf stars will have little chance of having life on said planet. The reason behind this is that young stars simply are too active. In other words, they emit too much solar radiation for planets orbiting around it to develop an atmosphere. With that much radiation, it would be next to impossible to find intelligent life on planets orbiting around young stars. However when stars become older, they become less active. We can hope for life to develop on planets previously thought uninhabitable, in the next few million years.

New type of plastic can improved recycling
Link: https://arstechnica.com/science/2019/04/new-type-of-plastic-is-a-recycling-dream/
Scientist have now created a new type of plastic that claims to be truly "reusable". Traditional plastics or aluminums can be melted down into their raw materials, however, they are somewhat changed due to their first use. This makes it so that the actual material has a limit to how many times it can be reused. Scientists now claim to solved this problem by making a plastic that uses triketones and amines as building block monomers. In doing so, the plastic is easier to assemble, disassemble, and reassemble again and again. Traditional plastics required large amounts of energy to take them apart or reshape them. However, this new type of plastic only requires a bath in a strong acid to be disassembled. This new type of plastic can be revolutionary to the way we recycle and can be considered truly reusable.

space alters your body
Link: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/11/science/scott-mark-kelly-twins-space-nasa.html
After returning from the international space station, astronaut Scott Kelly was compared to his twin brother. This lead to some interesting results. As an example, many genes that are normally "asleep" awoke in response to the body being in a new environment: Space. Some of these genes were related to cell repair, which makes sense because of the increased amount of radiation exposure in space. These results also mention that dangerous amounts of genetic mutations found within Scott's DNA. This worries some scientists if we ever plan to send astronauts to Mars since the entire trip could take a year, and that's a whole year of radiation exposure. Results also show that Scott became slower, or less accurate, this can be a caused from biological mutations or possibly just mental stress. However if this were to be caused from the extended duration in space, scientists say that it can be a danger in long missions.

Scientist have found out that rings of dust actually orbit around the sun and some follow the same orbital path as the planets in our solar system. Many of these rings we know of already, however new ones are being discovered such as a ring of dust circling around Mercury's orbit. Many scientists disregarded the idea of there being a dust ring close to Mercury due to the planet's small size. These rings are also the spotting grounds of new asteroids that could possibly even be the ones maintaining the shape of the dust rings. Undiscovered asteroids also raise the question of if they're continuing to shed dust, or was there only one "break up" event? Scientists also use dust rings found in other solar systems as a flag to find possible undiscovered planets within them.

A team of engineers at University of California made a device that can detect specific genetic mutations in a matter of minutes. This device was made by using the CRISPER system because of how straightforward the actual system is. The CRISPER system takes a strip of DNA and removes it from the organism as if it were cutting a piece of paper from the larger sheet. However, this device does not remove the DNA but instead uses a deactivated Cas9 protein. This variant of Cas9 can find a specific location on DNA, but doesn't cut it, this is how the device "scans" the DNA to find and gene mutations. This device can help people easily find out if they have any gene related mutations or if they have anything abnormal in their DNA.

A newly announced art software has the ability to make simple doodles into realistic works of art by using an A.I dubbed, GauGAN. This A.I was created by the company called NVIDIA, and they specifically created this A.I to make artwork from the most simple of outlines. Even though the actual software is only in a demo phase, it still is an amazing tool. The software itself consists of only three tools: a paint bucket, pen, and a pencil. These tools are then followed by several labels such as water, rock, and grass. The A.I then uses the tools and the labels to make artwork with the desired color and texture of the scene you're drawing, however, the A.I is limited to only drawing scenes of nature and is currently unable to draw cars. Even with certain limitations, the A.I is an impressive tool and it's creators hope it will reach the AI playground, a new website that opens up its image editing, styling, and photo realistic synthesis software demos to everyone who's interested.

How Early Apollo-era space pictures were taken
In the early age of the "Apollo missions", before Neil Armstrong could take his first step on the moon, NASA had to figure out where on the moon the Apollo 11 could land. To solve this problem, NASA created van-sized satellites and sent out in 1966 and 1967 to map the moon. There was a total of 5 of these nearly identical satellites and lunar orbiter 3 was the first to find a suitable landing site for the astronauts by taking photos of the moon on February 15 to 23 in 1967. These satellites were also unique for the equipment that they carried. Each satellite had two cameras, one with a high-resolution lens and one with medium resolution. These cameras also had to be able to process the photos and send them back to NASA, thus, the Kodak BIMAT transfer processing system was used. This system was used for recon-related missions, making it the ideal system to use. However even though these satellites were advanced in their time, they were still low-tec, so a single film burnout that the lunar orbiter 3 experienced was enough to threaten the success of the mission.

Black holes
Link: https://science.nasa.gov/astrophysics/focus-areas/black-holes
To the naked eye black holes are invisible, however with new technological steps being made every day, scientist can find and even identify a black holes. Black holes are made when a large star dies. When the star dies it leaves behind a small but dense remnant core. That core can have more mass than three times the mass of our sun. We cannot however see a black hole due to the fact that it sucks in everything within it's gravitational pull. But this fact helps up identify where a black hole is. If a black hole were to travel through a cloud of space matter it would suck in the matter and seem like, well. . . a black hole. This can help scientist identify where a black hole is. Adding on, even though we cannot see black holes, scientist say there are ten million to a billion black holes in the Milky Way alone and possibly more. There are such things as "Super-Massive" black holes too. Scientist speculate that they are formed from chain reactions of star collision. This chain reaction occurs where stars are put in tight groups, and when a black hole shows up all the stars are put into the black hole, thus making it bigger.

Sailing In Space

With further study from astronomers in that time period they though of the idea of sailing through the heavens. today our spacecrafts can now "sail" through space by using a "solar sail". Spacecrafts can now sail in space by harvesting the power of photons. Photons have completely no mass but still can carry momentum, but the reason they don't affect us is because they're so small that their force is countered by more powerful forces such as friction and gravity. Furthermore, today we can make spacecraft so light that they can efficiently harness the momentum of photons, or like the original idea, Light.

How Human Eye's Color Vision works
The muscles of our pupils control how much light passes through and how much light enters out eyes. The clear cornea and lens bend the light and focus it onto the retina, a thin strip of tissue covered in millions of light-sensitive photoreceptors. These nerve cells, named for the way they are shaped (like rods and cones) are where light is converted into electrical signals then sent by the optic nerve to the visual centers of the brain. This is how we see things, but in order to see color we need these pyramid shaped cells. These pyramid shaped cells come in three types: blue, green and red. Each one is named after the colors of light they are able to detect. We need all three to see the many colors in our surroundings. Without even one of the colors many colors could not be seen by the person. One leading cause of color blindness is that a person can inherit color blindness from a past family member that is also color blind.

How Myths Are made

Mythology are considered old stories from various cultures, many mythological stories we see today many consist of Greek / Roman, Egyptian, and Norse Mythology. These myths are considered to be from true events in the past possibly distorted to make gods and monsters therefore creation myths define human reality in very different terms. One myth from Greek Mythology tells of a sun god Apollo, The god of the sun, music, medicine, and many other aspects of life. This sun god Apollo was said to fly across the world on a "sun chariot" which the myths describe to be the literal sun. Since the myth takes place when people didn't have any means of flying transportation or even telescopes they could not tell that the "Sun Chariot" was really a star that is 92,955,828 miles away from the surface of the earth. Myths nowadays can be easily proven to be misinterpreted information that make animals into monsters. With myths now being converted into a modern prospective we can now see what myths were based on and how they were made.

Another example is Saturn’s hexagon, a towering polar vortex that can contain the mass of four earths within it's six sides. Even Mars, with it's thin atmosphere, can exploit wispy cyclones near it's poles and even cause planet wide dust storms thick enough to blot out the sun. With this information now we know earth isn't the only planet with storms that cause wide spread destruction.

A Boy's brain still works correctly after a large piece was removed
Even with at least one third of his brain removed, a boy can still participate in daily activities we do every day, This shows how adaptable our brains are. the boy started having seizures at the age of four. No treatments could stop his epilepsy, therefore surgeons removed a third of his brain’s right hemisphere just before the boy's seventh birthday. After the surgery researchers studied the boy and how he would be affected and react without his occipital lobe , which carries out visual processing, and most of his temporal lobe, which processes visual and auditory information. According to the research, three years following his surgery, the researchers could see which parts of his brain were able to recover. apparently the researchers found that his intellect, visual perception, and face and object recognition skills were all normal for his age. The only downside to the surgery is that the boy could not see to the left of his nose. The reason behind this is the boy had part of his brain's Left hemisphere removed which, consequently, caused him to only see out of his right eye. Adding on, researchers claim that the boy was only able to recover because he was still young and developing, as for older people, the same results seem unlikely.

A massive heatwave in the northern hemisphere is causing deadly wildfires, dry weather, and deadly heatwaves. A main contributor to this deadly heatwave is the Arctic. A new study showed that the Arctic is heating up twice as fast than usual. With unusual heat jet streams are being stalled, with these jet streams moving slower weather is supposedly becoming stuck in one place. In other words, stalled jet streams are trapping regions of high pressure that are cloudless, windless, and extremely hot.

can we zap our brains to boost our abilities? Or is it more dangerous than we think?
Zapping our brain with electricity can apparently reawaken old dream, improve depression, and even make people better at math. Although there are many benefits there are certain risks when doing this such as, faulty equipment or even people throwing fits of rage. An important question for this method of self improvement would be, is it safe? Even with all these risks scientist were not deterred. Wearable versions of the brain zapping device have already been under development and testing. With this new way of self improvement the main question, is it safe, still has to answered, but it may become a new way to improve ourselves in the future.

Business students are likely to have a brain parasite spread by cats
In recent studies, people that study business are commonly found to have the brain parasite, Toxoplasma gondii. Toxoplasma gondii, is a brain parasite that people can get through contact with cats faces, uncooked meat, or contaminated water. At least one third of the population on earth has this brain parasite and are 1.7 times more likely to be majoring in business. A reason for this is that the parasite reduces a persons fear of failure and high risk, high reward type deals. Even though this parasite can seem harmless, it can lead to slower reaction times, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, suicidal behavior, and explosive anger. Some see this parasite as "beneficial" while others may see it as another deadly disease.

New Photos of titan Shows what's underneath it's hazy atmosphere
Saturn's moon, Titan is surrounded by an orange haze or clouds so we can't clearly see what's going on below the clouds. Although the clouds may block out visible light, but the clouds lets some wavelengths of infrared light through. Using infrared detectors allowed a space craft named, Cassini, to pierce the veil and peer right down to the frigid moon’s surface, revealing its rolling dunes and oily methane seas. With Cassini ending it's voyage by crashing into Saturn, the photos taken by Cassini may be the best photos we can get for now.

Mind controlled robotic arm allows you to do two things at once
An experiment with a mind controlled robotic arm showed that eight out of the fifteen participants were able to grab a bottle with the arm and move a ball around a tray. With varying results scientist produced the conclusion that people that can multitask can control the arm while doing something compared to the people struggling to control the arm due to the fact they can't multitask very well. With these results scientists concluded that the mind controlled grabber arm would be more efficient with factory workers or for people with jobs that require multitasking. With the mind controlled arm, it can make jobs easier when heavy loads need to be lifted or if someone needs a hand. With mind reading technology still being fully developed the arm still has room for improvement but for now it can still help people get the job done.

Gene-edited products are to be classified as genetically modified organisms. in the EU
In the EU products that are gene-edited would now be considered GMOs or genetically modified organisms. Gmos are usually the products of life forms that had their genes edited by experiments conducted by scientists. Even now certain plants that we eat or grow from seed packets are gene-edited. Back in the 1990s, biologists started genetically modifying organisms by adding extra pieces of DNA, usually from entirely different organisms, but they were unable to control where this DNA ended up. This caused very different results in their experiments and started to attract the attention of the EU. Later In 2003, the EU introduced a rule requiring that organisms created by this form of genetic modification undergo extra safety testing and be labelled, but this rule specifically excluded those created by mutagenesis. , or animals that were mutated naturally. As a result there were mixed feelings for this new rule, nature preservers agreed to this rule while biologists, on the other hand, were disappointed and called it a step backwards and the exact opposite of progress.

Colorful lights shows in space
Some people think that space in a cold and dark vacuum where no life can survive, but bright colors can be seen even from here on earth. Using specialized cameras and telescopes, two people took many pictures of outer space and even the other planets. Multiple pictures revealed that space is more active than we think, One picture even shows the sun's role ropes of plasma that seem to spill out from the giant star. Another picture reveals that the moon is littered with craters and streaks of dust. Pictures were even taken in the artic to show the aurora borealis which is caused by charged particles that are blown by the sun towards Earth. Thus pictures of space can show us that activity is all around us, even in space.

Wireless Lights inside the body can kill cancer
A new device that emits light can supposedly cure cancer. This device is used for Photodynamic therapy, in this therapy the patient takes a drug to make his or her cells vulnerable to light. Then the doctors shine a light on the tumor for 10 to 45 minutes, or they use a flexible tube called and endoscope if the tumor is located inside the body. Adding on, sometimes the tumor is located on an organ that moves, thus making the Photodynamic therapy much more complicated. But Toshinori Fujie at Waseda University, Japan, developed a device that can be put between two sheets of sticky paper. When this device was experimented on mice the results were that this device worked and functioned properly. Thus making photodynamic therapy a way to finally cure cancer.

Robots and AI can create more jobs than they take
Robots and AI were first believed to take the jobs of half the American work force and one third of the jobs in the UK, but further research points the other way. Frist of all, with automation, It will be expensive to cover and more job positions would be available due to lack of cost, but more spending. Adding on, present day research now states that only 10 percent of the American work force would be affected, and only 12 percent of the UK work force would be affected. Thus, with new evidence, We can safely say that robots and AI might give more jobs than they take.

New foldable grabber arm can capture fragile sea life without harming them
Harvard created new foldable grabber arm that, unlike suction or claw-like grabbers, Can capture even fragile sea creatures such as jelly fish and their relatives without harming them. This foldable grabber arm was made by Zhi Ern Teoh at Harvard University in Massachusetts, Zhi and his team made the foldable grabber arm to capture fragile sea life without damaging or harming them. With this new technology researchers can study sea life underwater and allow them to get more interesting results. The Harvard team is even trying to add additional hardware, such as 3D scanners and DNA swabs, to examine creatures whilst inside the foldable grabber. This new grabber arm can help researchers and scientists alike study and examine sea creatures in their natural habitat and avoid harming them.

Why parents should not worry about Borax
parents shouldn't worry about the amounts of borax in the children's toy, slime. Borax is a chemical that is used in slime making as an "Activator" to fully complete the slime recipe. Borax and other boron compounds are considered non-toxic at low levels and the average adult eats at least a milligram or two each day since borax is commonly found in many food items we eat. Adding on, even if we eat or consume borax, it does not accumulate in the body unlike heavy metals such as lead, you urinate it out within the same day you consumed it. Also, the only way to get sick by borax is to consume at least 5000mg of borax per day, thus unless the child consumes 5000mg of borax per a day, they should not get sick. Therefore the chemical, Borax, is not a true danger to children with slime.
